Radiation Reflection, Day 17

My chest is a treasure map,
X marks on both ends of my scar -
Two Sharpie circles lead electrons
to a buried cavity.
The hunt isn’t so secret,
precious good, indeed -
We’re eliminating spies along the way,
Saving a piece of me

My mom shared this photo of bleeding hearts. On this day, I started the final five radiation treatments. These are called “boost” treatments and only target the cavity where I had cancer. A small attachment is placed on the radiation machine, and electrons are used rather than photons. The previous 16 appointments were whole breast radiation treatments.
