Scars pink like lotus flowers hide
beneath T-shirts and loose dresses.

I watered backyard plants and fed the dogs,
placed a chlorine tablet in the pool,
acted like the next day would come.

My chest is a treasure map,
X marks on both ends of my scar -

Anxiety’s grim reaper
can’t stand photons

Sometimes holding onto thoughts
is like trying to catch a butterfly
